22 mm RA Long Shank Round Diamond Bur
The Eagle RA Long Shank Surgical Bur is a 22 mm long shank round bur with a thick spherical diamond head and medium grit, made for low-speed (RA) handpieces. It is used for separation and for other procedures where a standard-length bur does not give enough reach or visibility.

What a Long Shank Round Bur Is Used For
Separation is the sectioning of a tooth or restoration into smaller parts, so that each part can be treated or removed on its own. The round diamond head cuts through tooth structure and restorative material at low speed, and the 22 mm shank keeps the handpiece away from the field. Long shank burs also help in posterior and deep areas, where the handpiece head would otherwise block the view.
RA, FG and HP Shanks Compared
- RA (latch type): slow-speed contra-angle handpieces. This bur.
- FG (friction grip): high-speed turbines.
- HP: straight handpieces, mostly used in the lab and in surgery.
For bone cutting, many clinicians prefer carbide burs: see our surgical burs. More low-speed options are in the slow speed RA burs collection.
