Tapered Fissure Carbide Burs: 167, 169, 170 and 171 Burs
Eagle tapered fissure carbide burs are 6-blade operative burs for friction grip (FG) handpieces, in four head sizes: the 167 bur, 169 bur, 170 bur and 171 bur. Each pack contains 5 top-quality burs.
| Code | Head size | Head length | Shank |
|---|---|---|---|
| 167 | 007 | 4.1 mm | FG |
| 169 | 009 | 4.1 mm | FG |
| 170 | 010 | 4.1 mm | FG |
| 171 | 012 | 4.1 mm | FG |
169 Bur vs 170 Bur vs 171 Bur
All four have the same head length of 4.1 mm. What changes is the head diameter, which grows with the number: the 169 is slimmer than the 170, and the 171 is the widest of the three. Choose the narrower bur for conservative walls and the wider one for larger boxes and walls.
What Is a Tapered Fissure Bur Used For?
A tapered fissure bur cuts cavity walls with a slight taper, so the walls of the preparation converge. Typical uses are smoothing the axial walls in Class II amalgam preparations and developing the boxes in gold inlay and onlay preparations.
Plain Cut vs Cross Cut Tapered Fissure Burs
These burs have plain 6-blade cutting heads, which cut quickly. A cross cut version adds notches across the blades to reduce chatter and clogging; see the cross cut tapered fissure burs. For a smoother finish with more blades, use the 12-blade tapered carbide burs.
