Frequently Asked Questions
What is a plaster cutting disc used for?
It is used in the dental lab to section plaster models, trim bases and excess plaster, and cut synthetic resin model work.
What size is this disc?
The disc is 40 mm in diameter and 0.28 mm thick.
What grit is it?
It has a fine diamond grit, which leaves a clean cut face that needs little cleanup.
Is the disc double-sided?
Yes. Both faces carry diamond, so you can trim on either side of the cut.
What handpiece does it fit?
It is factory mounted on a 2.35 mm HP shank mandrel for a straight lab handpiece or micromotor. Factory mounting helps ensure concentricity.
What speed should I run it at?
The recommended speed is 20,000 RPM, with light, steady pressure.
Can it cut resin as well as plaster?
Yes. The disc is designed for plaster and synthetic resins.
Why does my disc clog when cutting plaster?
Soft or damp plaster tends to load the diamond surface. Let models set and dry fully before cutting, and brush debris off the disc after use.
Is this the same disc as D368 in the Super Flex range?
Yes. It is the same 40 mm D368 disc, offered here on its own for model cutting. For thin separating discs, see the Super Flex range.
What safety precautions should I take?
Use dust extraction, eye protection and a suitable mask, keep fingers out of the plane of the disc, and never use a disc that is bent, chipped, cracked or wobbles.
