Silicon Carbide Polishing Wheels for the Dental Lab

EVE Universal HP Polishing Burs are silicone polishing wheels with a silicon carbide abrasive, made for shaping and smoothing composites, ceramics, metals and acrylic. The soft silicone bonding adapts to the surface while it is being processed, so the wheel follows contours instead of digging in. The different shapes are used for different applications, and each option comes in a pack of 100 wheels for high-volume lab work.

Choose Your Shape

Option Shape and size Typical use
RUHP17M (R22) Straight-edge wheel, 22 x 3 mm Flat and convex surfaces, flanges, frameworks and general smoothing
RUHP26M (L22) Lens-shaped wheel, 22 x 4 mm Contours, embrasures and areas where a tapered edge reaches better

The wheels are unmounted, with a center hole, and are used on a mandrel in a straight (lab) handpiece.

Recommended Speed

For optimal results, work at around 7,000 to 10,000 RPM, and do not exceed 20,000 RPM in any case. Staying in the recommended range keeps the silicone bond working as designed and reduces heat on the workpiece, which is important with acrylic and composite.

One Polisher, Four Material Groups

  • Composites: smoothing lab composite and composite veneers after contouring.
  • Ceramics: smoothing adjusted areas before the final polish or glaze.
  • Metals: smoothing frameworks, clasps and metal surfaces after grinding.
  • Acrylic: smoothing denture bases, appliances and temporaries.

Because one wheel covers all four material groups, the universal polisher is a simple choice for a lab bench that handles mixed work during the day. For the final high-gloss step on a specific material, you can follow up with a dedicated polisher from the EVE polishers range.

How to Use the Wheels

  1. Mount: fix the wheel securely on a suitable mandrel and check that it runs true.
  2. Set the speed: work at about 7,000 to 10,000 RPM.
  3. Use light pressure: let the silicone adapt to the surface. Heavy pressure creates heat and wears the wheel faster.
  4. Keep moving: work in sweeping passes rather than holding the wheel on one spot.
  5. Use the right edge: the straight edge of the R22 for broad areas, the tapered lens profile of the L22 for contours.

Where the Universal Wheel Fits in the Lab Workflow

Think of lab finishing in three stages: shaping with burs or stones, smoothing to remove grinding marks, and final polishing to a gloss. The EVE Universal wheel belongs to the smoothing stage. After you have shaped a framework, a denture flange or a composite veneer, the wheel removes the coarse scratches left by the cutting instrument and prepares the surface for the final polish.

Starting the final polish on a properly smoothed surface saves time with the finer polishers and gives a more even result, because the fine abrasives do not have to remove deep scratches.

With 100 wheels per pack, you can replace worn wheels freely instead of stretching one wheel across too many jobs.

Why Silicon Carbide in Silicone

Silicon carbide is a hard abrasive that cuts efficiently across many materials, while the silicone bond gives the wheel flexibility. Together they smooth the surface and remove grinding marks without the aggressive cut of a stone or a bur. That makes the wheel a useful middle step between shaping and final polishing.

HP Wheels vs the RA Version

The EVE Universal wheels on this page are HP polishers for a straight handpiece, the usual setup at the lab bench. If you need a universal silicon carbide polisher for a contra-angle at the chair, see the RA Universal Polishing Burs.

Care and Storage

  • Clean debris from the wheel between materials to avoid transferring metal particles to ceramic or acrylic surfaces.
  • Replace a wheel when its edge is worn, glazed or no longer smoothing evenly.
  • Store the pack closed and dry so the silicone stays in good condition.
