1557 Bur vs 1558 Bur
Both have the same shape. The 1558 has the larger head, so choose it for wider preparations and the 1557 for narrower ones.
Round End vs Flat End Cross Cut Fissure Burs
The 1557 and 1558 are the round end versions of the 557 and 558 straight fissure burs. The rounded tip leaves a rounded internal angle, while a flat end leaves a sharp one. The cross cut notches reduce chatter and clogging. For the flat end version, see the 557 carbide bur.
What These Burs Are Used For
Cavity preparation with straight walls and removal of old restorations, with less chatter than a plain cut bur. For a tapered shape, see the 1702 round end cross cut tapered fissure bur.
